The Foundations Dance Instructor provides engaging, age-appropriate ballet, tap, and jazz instruction for students ages 3–10, building strong foundations in technique, musicality, rhythm, creativity, and performance. We seek collaborative, enthusiastic, and dependable performing arts educators with strong dance training, excellent classroom management skills, and a passion for inspiring confident, well‑rounded young artists through movement, music, and creative expression.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTThe ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Dance, Performing Arts, Dance Pedagogy, Music, Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Equivalent professional performance and teaching experience may be considered in lieu of formal educational requirements. Candidates currently in their senior year of undergraduate study may also be considered. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong classical ballet training, tap and jazz skills, and a passion for developing young artists through high‑quality instruction.
Experience in choreography, creative movement, musical theatre, and interdisciplinary performing arts education is highly desirable.
Qualifications include:
- Strong foundation in classical ballet technique with extensive studio training.
- Advanced proficiency in tap and jazz dance styles.
- Interest and/or experience in choreography and creative movement development.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment.
- Working knowledge of music theory, rhythm, musical form, and the ability to read and interpret music.
- Understanding of age‑appropriate pedagogy and progressive skill development. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and families.
Additional qualifications that are highly valued include:
- Current involvement in teaching, performing, choreographing, or other professional artistic endeavors. Teaching experience is required; however, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, adaptability, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous growth are valued as highly as years of teaching experience.
Creating simple, yet interesting choreography that encompasses skill development at appropriate level.
Regularly communicating with parents or guardians to share progress, provide updates, and address any concerns or questions they may have.
Assessing the children's progress periodically and providing constructive feedback on their strengths and areas for improvement. Offering suggestions for continued growth and development.
Foundation classes are scheduled on Saturdays from 9a‑12pm, and early afternoons, Monday‑Friday 2p‑6p. We generally do not offer classes to this age group weekdays after 6:00 in order to keep the sanity of our staff.
COMPENSATIONAn hourly teaching rate for classes is set by education and experience. Separate “project agreements” are used for outside the classroom, and may include musical theatre choreography, private and semi‑private lessons.
