Position Overview

This 9-month tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator for the M.S. in Adult Education serves the Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education in the College of Education at North Carolina A&T State University.

Through its commitment to civic engagement, transformative research, and creative scholarship, the interdisciplinary Masters of Science in Adult Education and Ph.D. in Leadership Studies doctoral program produces leaders who are critical thinkers capable of transforming organizations and institutions to maximize human potential.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

Building on the NC A&T historically Black university (HBCU) legacy of exemplary teaching, scholarship and effective public service, the College of Education offers degrees at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels. The mission is to prepare highly skilled, transformative and innovative educators, leaders, and counselors. Graduates are catalysts for transformative action to improve education and counseling in diverse contexts and communities.

The College of Education comprises three departments and a Laboratory School: the Department of Counseling, the Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education, the Department of Educator Preparation, and Aggie Academy. The Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education offers a variety of master and doctoral level academic programs:
Master of Science in Adult Education, Master of School Administration, School Administration Add-on Licensure, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Leadership Studies. The department prepares students to be transformative scholar-practitioners.

Minimum Requirements
  • Doctorate in Adult Education or a closely related discipline with a specialization in Adult Education from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Record of scholarly productivity. This activity includes manuscript publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, procurement of extramural funds, and presentations facilitated at well-respected meetings and conferences.
  • Expertise in research methodology and knowledge of pertinent theories and practices as related to adult education.
  • Proven ability to use adult learning strategies in both face-to-face and virtual settings.
  • Ability to work with diverse adult populations in academic and professional working relationships.
  • Experience providing high quality instruction to graduate candidates.
  • Proven record of serving on dissertation and/or thesis research committees.
Location & Work Arrangement

On-site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site).

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
