Position Overview
The Lennon Distinguished Professor in Epidemiology is a prestigious academic appointment in the Department of Animal Sciences at North Carolina A&T State University. The role is a 9‑month tenure‑track faculty position and is established to attract a visionary leader in epidemiology, a vital discipline in public health that focuses on disease surveillance, prevention and control within populations. The distinguished professor will drive impactful interdisciplinary research on disease emergence, transmission dynamics and public health implications, and will be instrumental in advancing the department’s teaching and curriculum related to animal health, disease and related areas.
The position will support the development of an interdisciplinary graduate certificate in One Health and significantly contribute to preparing students for careers in animal health, public health, government, research, and academia. This role is a cornerstone in advancing the university’s mission of excellence in teaching, research and outreach and is key to addressing global challenges at the animal‑human‑environment interface.

- Academic Qualifications
: A DVM/Ph.D. or Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Veterinary Public Health, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. - Professional Status
:
Eligible for appointment as a full professor with tenure at North Carolina A&T State University. This includes a nationally recognized record of exemplary scholarly achievement, including peer‑reviewed publications, research leadership, and external funding success. - Research and Teaching Experience
:- Demonstrated excellence in leading impactful, externally funded research programs in veterinary epidemiology or related areas.
- A history of teaching and mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in epidemiology, public health, or veterinary science.
- Experience with interdisciplinary research and commitment to the One Health approach.
- Experience
:
At least 10 years of post‑doctoral academic or research experience, including experience in a tenured faculty role and preferably in a leadership or administrative capacity. - Skills and Expertise
:- Expertise in veterinary disease modeling, outbreak investigations, and surveillance systems.
- Experience with One Health initiatives and collaborations with medical, environmental, and public health sectors.
- Proven success in securing grants from USDA, NIH, CDC, or related agencies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines and with community and industry stakeholders.
- Certification (Preferred):
Board certification in veterinary preventive medicine or epidemiology (e.g., ACVPM).
