The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design at North Carolina A&T State University is seeking a 9-month, tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Urban Horticulture.
The successful candidate will contribute to high‑quality undergraduate and graduate instruction, develop a productive and externally funded research program that addresses stakeholders' horticultural needs, engage in service to the department, college, and university, and support community and industry partnerships.
Qualifications- Ph.D. in Horticulture or closely related discipline, earned at the time of appointment.
- Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching in an agriculture‑focused program.
- Demonstrated research expertise and potential to establish a productive program.
- One or more years of post‑doctoral research experience.
- Record of independent research and strong publication track.
- Research background in horticulture areas such as controlled environment agriculture, urban food systems, hydroponics, aeroponics, and vertical farming.
- Prior university teaching experience and teaching effectiveness.
- Experience working with stakeholders, horticultural producers, extension personnel, and/or industry partners.
- Strong potential in securing external research funding.
- Experience with greenhouse, farm, high‑tunnel, or controlled‑environment research facilities.
- Commitment to mentoring diverse student populations and inclusive teaching practices.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for land‑grant outreach.
