Position OverviewThe Associate Professor of History and Political Science is a full-time, tenure-track faculty member responsible for advancing the Department's mission through excellence in teaching, research, student engagement, and service. Key responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses; advising and mentoring students; developing and assessing curriculum; maintaining a productive research agenda evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, scholarly presentations, and related professional activities; supporting student recruitment and retention;
participating in program assessment efforts; securing external funding when appropriate; and providing meaningful service to the Department, College, University, profession, and community. Performance is evaluated based on demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, scholarly productivity, student success, and service consistent with the University's tenure and promotion standards.
Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Political Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution and demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service appropriate for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, EducationThe ideal candidate will have at least five years of college-level teaching experience and an established record of scholarly achievement, including peer-reviewed publications and evidence of an active research agenda. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to student success, academic excellence, and shared governance, along with strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. The successful candidate will be collegiate, collaborative, and dedicated to fostering an inclusive learning environment while mentoring students and contributing to departmental, college, and university initiatives.
