Position OverviewThe Department of Criminal Justice at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University seeks a full-time, non-tenure-track 9-month faculty member to teach campus-based and online courses. The hire will be at the lecturer or senior lecturer faculty rank.
The position reports to the Chairperson of the Criminal Justice Department and will work closely with Department and College administration, as well as faculty, to develop, deliver, and continuously improve high-quality, innovative undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth of online and hybrid learning initiatives through the design, implementation, and assessment of engaging, student-centered courses that support academic excellence and accessibility.
The position will provide strong foundational support for new graduate programs and promote the incorporation of innovative instructional technologies and evidence-based teaching practices for students specializing in criminal justice and investigative science.
The faculty member will teach an approved curriculum of introductory, advanced-level, and graduate courses in face-to-face, online, and hybrid delivery formats; develop and maintain high-quality online course content that meets university and accreditation standards; foster meaningful student engagement in virtual learning environments; support students in maintaining satisfactory academic progress; serve on thesis and dissertation committees; and pursue external funding opportunities. Additional responsibilities include participating in student recruitment and retention initiatives;
advising and mentoring students; maintaining and reporting student grades and attendance, success reporting items, and timely submission of midterm and final grades in accordance with university policies; utilizing learning management systems and instructional technologies to enhance teaching effectiveness; and performing other teaching, assessment, and course review duties as assigned.
This position will also carry out discipline-related responsibilities as directed by the Chair or Dean, including research and scholarly activity, curriculum development, program assessment, recruitment, and service to the Department, College, University, and profession. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the advancement of innovative teaching and learning practices, including the continuous improvement of online education and student success outcomes.

The Department of Criminal Justice is housed within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. It offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Criminal Justice with a Certificate in Crime Scene Investigation, a Master of Science and a Ph.D. with four areas of specialization, Digital Forensics, Investigative Science, Social Justice, and Research Methods. The Department has over 550 majors.
The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, English, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS is an academic unit that reports to the Office of the Provost/Division of Academic Affairs and enrolls more than 2,000 students and has more than 160 full-time faculty members.
