Quality Engineering, Process Engineer
Phase Change Solutions (PCS) is a global leader in the development and supply of phase change materials (“PCMs”). The company’s proprietary PCMs, collectively referred to as BioPCM® include PCM’s certified with 100% bio-based content and listed among the USDA’s Bio Preferred® Program products. BioPCM® products can store and release thermal energy at temperatures ranging from
-75°C to 175°C while exhibiting a variety of additional advantages. This precise tunability enables customers worldwide to utilize BioPCM products in achieving their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since its founding in 2011, PCS has helped maintain optimum temperatures and save energy in a range of industries: transportation of perishables and pharmaceuticals, buildings and structures, telecom, and data centers. PCS was recognized as a Global Cleantech 100 company and one of ten Bloomberg BNEF Global Pioneer award winners, and one of nine inaugural cohort companies in The Clean Fight New York.
Title:
Process & Quality Engineer
Report to:
Engineering Operations
At PCS our Process & Quality Engineering capability is responsible for designing and optimizing the production, transformation, and final product for chemical substances and materials. This is a critical aspect to our work in advanced materials. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, this role helps to ensure that the processing of our raw materials into BioPCM is completed per specifications, with efficient and safe processes for both our team, customers and the environment.
This role also encompasses quality assurance responsibilities, including maintaining quality control systems, conducting in-process inspections, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring ISO 9000 compliance.
- Design and develop new or improved processes for the manufacture of BioPCM:
Research and test various chemical reactions, equipment, and operating conditions, as well as perform simulations and calculations to evaluate the feasibility, efficiency, safety, and environmental impact of the processes. - Prepare technical specifications, diagrams, and documentation for the processes, and coordinate with others to implement them.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize processes:
Ensure that processes are running smoothly and meeting the quality, quantity, and cost standards. Monitor for safety, quality, and optimization. - Perform regular inspections, audits, and maintenance of the processes, and recommend or implement any changes or improvements that can enhance their reliability, efficiency, or sustainability.
- Ensure that the processes are aligned with the business goals, customer needs, and environmental standards.
- Research and innovate processes:
Research and innovate new or alternative processes. - Conduct experiments, trials, and studies to explore new possibilities and potential applications of chemical processes. Document and present findings and proposals.
- Implement new processes, improvements, and other changes.
- Quality assurance and control:
Maintain differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) database, including coordinating with Principal Scientist for program revisions and new product introduction. - Support in-process inspections for DSC, viscosity, and other characteristics from phase change material batch operations.
- Conduct quality control and approval for in-process batches. Address escapes through analysis and troubleshooting. Collaborate with management on improvement solutions.
- Inspect and test materials, processes, and equipment.
- Receive customer returns and analyze to identify issues. Lead and/or participate in complaint investigations, failure analysis of returned products, and issues resulting in a stop ship/stop production; document findings, provide reports, and analysis.
- Participate in material review board activities for held inventory.
- Prepare supporting reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
- Train operators and others in quality processes.
- Support Document Control through the SharePoint platform.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, or a related field of study. Chemistry or Process Engineering-related specialty…
