Position Summary
In general, the Planner/Scheduler is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the University’s preventive maintenance program. This position performs administrative and technical work in planning, coordinating, and scheduling maintenance activities across campus facilities and operations. The Planner/Scheduler for the Mechanical (HVAC), Electrical, Plumbing, and Steam trades for all of the UNCG campus. These trades have responsibility for utility systems that affect larger portions of the entire campus.
Because of this, these positions must have technical competence in one or more of the MEP trades to be able to adequately plan the work for these trades. In addition, they must have strong knowledge of how utility systems are interconnected and what is required to safely work on them without having unintended consequences. Work includes collaborating with trade shops, troubleshooting maintenance issues, and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards.
The role requires a strong emphasis on preventive and predictive maintenance planning, efficient resource utilization, and adherence to industry best practices. Handles project management for small projects that are under $100,000 and that are not under the oversight of the State Construction Office. Depending on the work environment, the Planner/Scheduler may also lead or support programs related to sustainable energy practices, asbestos abatement, environmental compliance, refrigerant management, and other key initiatives that align with UNCG’s mission and operational goals.

- Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Planning (40%) – Developing, scheduling, and monitoring preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure reliability and efficiency across all facilities.
- Work Coordination & Scheduling (25%) – Oversees the day‑to‑day scheduling and coordination of maintenance work across campus facilities.
- Compliance, Safety & Regulatory Support (15%) – Ensures that all planned and scheduled work complies with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements.
- Program Development & Continuous Improvement (10%) – Leads initiatives to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of maintenance programs and processes.
- MRO Stores & Parts Support (5%) – Supports maintenance operations by assisting with MRO parts management and definitions.
- Stakeholder Communication & Reporting (5%) – Provides clear communication, reporting, and consultation with University stakeholders.
Associate’s degree in the assigned discipline or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require certification. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
