Job Description

Provides subject matter technical support and leadership for multi‑site environmental engineering work processes, due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, and environmental permitting projects. Ensures project elements relating to water supply, hazardous or solid waste disposal, air emission sources, pollution control, and environmental preservation are performed with the highest quality and compliance. Provides situational guidance to project managers and stakeholders, documents recommendations, and addresses long‑term ecological and human health risks.

Leads environmental site assessments, corrective strategies, classification of contaminated materials, treatment, disposal, and onsite remediation to prevent degradation of air, water, and land resources.

Your Impact
  • Provide oversight with data‑collection efforts for environmental data from air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices.
  • Perform complex investigations and inspections of emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources, and site conditions to assess compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Lead Phase I and II environmental site assessments.
  • Assist with engineering review of permit applications, design plans and specifications, standby plans, contracts, integrated waste management plans, and periodic construction inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and sound engineering practice.
  • Meet with private or public entities to discuss environmental issues and programs.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and action plans to prevent, control, restore, or clean up environmental problems.
  • Develop action plans for large‑scale pollution, corrosion, hazardous waste, and environmental control programs.
  • Lead large‑scale engineering projects, managing budgets, monitoring events, tracking hours and expenses, and supervising subcontractors and staff.
  • Build a client base for high‑level environmental engineering services and identify new business opportunities.
  • Mentor staff for professional growth.
  • Stay current with latest environmental engineering techniques.
  • Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary professionals to deliver future‑ready solutions.
  • Make responsible ethical decisions regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Civil, Sanitary, Chemical, Industrial, Agricultural, or Public Health Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 10+ years of post‑graduate experience in environmental engineering.
  • Professional engineer license (multi‑state preferred).
  • Proficient in engineering principles, environmental law, compliance practices, record‑keeping, and technical computations.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental laws, regulations, compliance, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Experience conducting Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in accordance with ASTM guidelines.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations for construction and design of facilities or structures under applicable regulations.
  • High‑level interpersonal and communication skills for effectively conveying complex ideas to engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, lead teams, and maintain strict QA/QC adherence.
  • Strong technical writing, office automation, communication software, predictive modeling, and math skills.
  • Experience critically reviewing documents and preparing complex technical deliverables.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, logical reasoning, and decision‑making skills.
  • Track record of coordinating and directing subcontractors and others to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Flexibility to a variety of schedules and ability to adapt quickly in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 40‑hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
