Position Summary
Engineering Technologist III is the third level of the non‑Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with limited supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
Responsibilities- Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
- Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance.
- Conducts engineering and related studies.
- Strives to continually improve job‑related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
- Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
- Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintains accurate records and files.
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- 4+ years of experience and an Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- 6+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in the utility industry.
- Ability to effectively apply basic principles of project management.
- Experience using Maximo/BOUD.
- Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio‑economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
- Increasingly proficient in principles of project management.
- Experience in the utility industry.
- Department‑specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
- Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles.
- Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing and presenting recommendations.
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. Hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility. Travel: 5‑15%.
