This role focuses on inspecting, overhauling, repairing, modifying, and troubleshooting aircraft structures and related components within a heavy maintenance (MRO) environment. You will perform complex sheet metal repairs and fabrication on a variety of structural parts, including control surfaces and primary structure, while supporting C and D check maintenance on commercial aircraft from major manufacturers.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, overhaul, repair, modify, and troubleshoot airframe parts, systems, and structural components in accordance with applicable maintenance manuals and procedures.
- Perform sheet metal repairs on aircraft structures, including ailerons, longerons, flaps, joints, panels, aircraft skin, and other primary and secondary structural components.
- Fabricate sheet metal parts and assemblies to support structural repairs and modifications, ensuring precise fit, alignment, and structural integrity.
- Carry out structural modifications on aircraft as part of heavy maintenance and upgrade programs, including cutting, fitting, drilling, riveting, and finishing operations.
- Work on aircraft undergoing C and D checks, supporting comprehensive inspections and structural maintenance tasks to return aircraft to service safely and efficiently.
- Use appropriate tools, equipment, and measuring devices to perform structural work, ensuring adherence to engineering drawings, technical data, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and engineering personnel to resolve structural issues, support troubleshooting efforts, and ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, care for personal tools, and follow all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements within the MRO environment.
- Adapt to changing priorities and assignments within large multi-hangar facilities, including working on different aircraft types and projects as needed.
Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of aircraft structural maintenance and/or sheet metal repair and sheet metal fabrication experience in an MRO environment performing heavy maintenance and modifications.
- Proven experience performing aircraft sheet metal repairs, including removal, repair, and installation of structural components such as ailerons, longerons, flaps, joints, panels, and aircraft skin.
- Hands-on experience with sheet metal fabrication processes, including layout, forming, cutting, drilling, and riveting of aircraft-grade materials.
- Background in aviation structures work within heavy maintenance operations, including support of C and D check inspections.
- Experience working on Boeing aircraft platforms (such as B737, B757, B767, B777 or similar) in a maintenance or modification environment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, structural repair manuals, and technical data specific to aircraft structures.
- Proficiency with common sheet metal tools and equipment, including drills, rivet guns, bucking bars, shears, and measuring instruments.
- Capability to work safely and efficiently in large hangar environments, following established safety procedures and quality standards.
- Flexibility to work various shifts and some weekends as required by maintenance schedules.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience with aircraft interior work, aircraft modification, and aviation structures beyond core sheet metal tasks.
- Exposure to both Boeing and Airbus aircraft in a heavy maintenance or modification setting.
- Familiarity with heavy maintenance operations in large MRO facilities, including multi-hangar environments and complex project coordination.
- Ability to adapt to different shift assignments (1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift) and adjust to changing workload demands.
- Strong attention to detail and quality, with a focus on structural integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with other technicians, inspectors, and engineering staff.
