Engineering Manager
The Engineering Manager will lead and strengthen a growing product engineering team within an industrial manufacturing environment, bringing structure, discipline, and best practices to support significant operational growth. This role plays a key part in the company's transformation toward operational excellence, including increasing production volume and implementing a new ERP system from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Provide strong, hands-on leadership to the product engineering team, setting clear expectations and driving accountability for quality, schedule, and performance.
- Introduce and enforce engineering best practices, processes, and standards to bring discipline and consistency to product engineering activities.
- Lead the implementation and development of a new ERP system from scratch, ensuring effective integration with engineering, manufacturing, and materials planning.
- Define, structure, and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and related engineering documentation to support manufacturing, MRP, and inventory control.
- Oversee new product development and product engineering efforts, from concept through design, prototyping, and release to production.
- Guide and support the use of 3D CAD and other design tools to create robust, manufacturable designs for metal fabrication and assembly operations.
- Collaborate closely with operations, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to align engineering output with production capacity and business objectives.
Essential Skills
- 10–15+ years of engineering experience, with significant experience in engineering management within industrial manufacturing.
- Proven track record leading product engineering teams and driving implementation of engineering best practices.
- Strong experience with ERP systems, including standing up a new ERP from scratch and integrating engineering and MRP functions.
- Deep understanding of bill of materials (BOM) structures and their role in manufacturing, planning, and inventory control.
- Industrial manufacturing experience with metal fabrication, including steel and aluminum forming, welding, painting, and assembly.
- Strong sense of urgency, decisive personality, and the ability to push initiatives forward in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience mechanical engineering or closely related engineering discipline.
- Experience in product engineering and product development, including design for manufacturability in a fabrication and assembly context.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD design tools for product and component design.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (BS Engineering) or equivalent technical degree.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with operations, manufacturing, and leadership teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in industries such as work trucks, HVAC, electrical equipment, or switch gear is highly valued.
- Prior responsibility for implementing or significantly upgrading ERP and MRP systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build and implement new engineering and operational strategies that support growth and transformation.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greensboro, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $84.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
