The Vice President of Alternative Investments Risk Management is a senior leadership role responsible for establishing, enhancing, and overseeing the risk management framework across a broad range of alternative investment strategies. This leader will manage a team of risk professionals and partner closely with investment, product, treasury, finance, operations, and technology leaders to provide independent risk oversight, analytics, and strategic guidance.

The role supports a diverse portfolio of liquid and illiquid alternative investments, including hedge funds and liquid alternatives, private equity, private credit, venture capital, structured credit, real estate, digital assets, and derivative-based strategies. The successful candidate will leverage advanced analytics, stress testing, scenario analysis, and emerging technologies to assess portfolio risks, identify emerging issues, strengthen decision-making, and support strategic business initiatives.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline; advanced degree and/or CFA, CAIA, FRM, or similar designation preferred
  • 15+ years of experience in investment risk management, quantitative analytics, alternative investments, or related disciplines, including leadership experience
  • Expertise across alternative investment strategies, including hedge funds, private equity, private credit, venture capital, structured credit, real estate, digital assets, and derivatives
  • Deep understanding of market, credit, liquidity, valuation, operational, concentration, and counter party risks
  • Experience evaluating portfolio exposures, leverage, liquidity, factor sensitivities, private asset valuations, and tail-risk scenarios
  • Strong knowledge of risk methodologies, including stress testing, scenario analysis, factor analysis, liquidity assessment, and portfolio risk modeling
  • Experience developing and enhancing risk frameworks, governance processes, reporting, controls, and risk oversight programs
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Aladdin, MSCI Risk Manager, Barra One, Bloomberg, S&P Global, Intex, or similar risk and analytics tools
  • Strong technical and analytical capabilities, including Python, SQL, data visualization tools, and large financial datasets
  • Ability to communicate complex risk concepts and influence investment professionals, executives, and governance committees
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams, build strong cross-functional partnerships, and drive strategic initiatives across investments, finance, operations, treasury, and technology
  • Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and talent development
  • Ownership and ongoing enhancement of the risk management framework
  • Identification and oversight of emerging and tail risk exposures
  • Support for strategic initiatives, new product development, and business growth opportunities
  • Partnership with data science and technology teams to advance risk analytics, infrastructure, and modernization efforts
  • Data quality, model governance, and control framework responsibilities

The Team

This team is a part of Fidelity Investment’s Enterprise, Legal, Risk and Compliance group delivering independent investment risk insights and analytics focused upon Alternative Investments to the Asset Management team.

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
