The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur.

Protect the Heart of North Carolina
- ** Join the NC State Capitol Police and Serve with Pride, Integrity, and Purpose**. NC State Capitol Police Officers maintain physical security of all state buildings and grounds. Respond to calls for service including fire alarms, intrusion alarms, bomb threats or need for emergency medical services from State Capitol Police Communications Center and reports to incident scenes.
** Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*** Investigate suspicious persons/activities reported by state employees or visitors.
* Provides information and assistance to visitors and/or motorists.
* Order state employees to clear buildings when advised of fire or bomb threats to safeguard life of employees/visitors.
* Enforce state laws and regulations within jurisdictional boundaries and respond to calls for assistance in the state government complex.
* Direct and reroute traffic around fire and other disturbances.
* Issue citations for violations of motor vehicle laws
* Investigate criminal offenses involving state property, state employees, or visitors to state property.
* Arrest subjects in connection with crimes or violations of laws.
* Testify in court to assist in resolution of cases involving traffic cases or crimes against the State and state employees/visitors while on duty.
* Check buildings during non-working hours and at night to ensure security of property and equipment.

Management Preferences:
* BLET Certified
* Demonstrated knowledge of investigative techniques and case preparation requirements for standard traffic and criminal cases.
* Demonstrated knowledge of criminal and traffic laws and laws relating to the rights of suspects, search, and seizure, maintaining the chain of evidence and arrest authority.
