Join an inclusive organization with over 40,000 teammates. The Special Care Nursery is a Level II NICU with 3 licensed beds on the Smithfield Campus, partnering with REX Neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners to care for infants with neonatal medical needs while supporting families.
Call = 3 shifts in a 6-week schedule.
Responsibilities- Education - Identify and meet learning needs of self; attend education programs; use patient education materials relevant to patient population; assess readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers; assess developmental level of patient and factors affecting ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care - Identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance in revising the plan of care; participate in interdisciplinary team discussions to evaluate patient care; communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
- Implementation - Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems; perform bedside point-of-care testing as required; follow organizational nursing standards, policies and procedures; organize and prioritize care according to patient/family needs; consult appropriate resources for complex issues or discharge planning.
- Leadership - Develop goals to promote professional growth; work toward goals within identified time frames; collaborate interdepartmentally; contribute to unit goals and performance improvement; use communication systems effectively; promote cost-effective care; provide feedback to co-workers; be aware of regulatory guidelines and maintain a safe hospital environment.
- Patient Assessment - Recognize data from complex situations to determine care priorities; assess physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs; synthesize assessment data and communicate findings; assess and plan for discharge needs; build relationships with families to support advocacy.
- Planning - Collaborate with patient/family to update the plan of care; utilize multidisciplinary resources; communicate planning across a full range of channels; address cultural and ethnic issues in planning; prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
- Research - Engage with current literature; bring ideas/questions to staff for assessment of applicability.
Education Requirements: Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina;
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements: One (1) year of nursing experience.
