Position Summary

The Simulation Technician at the Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM) is responsible for ongoing technical and logistical support for simulation and clinical skills delivery within the Simulation Center. Major areas of responsibility will include collaborating with the Director of Simulation Education, Technical Director of the Simulation Center, Director of Clinical Education, Director of Ultrasound Education, the Department Chair, and multi-disciplinary groups to assist in the implementation and utilization of high-fidelity simulators, procedural task trainers, and other training assets required for the delivery of simulation and Clinical Skills education.

The Simulation Technician is responsible for audio/visual (A/V) equipment evaluation, inventory, support, maintenance and setup, computer software support, as well as care of the manikins and other equipment used in the simulation and Clinical Skills program. In addition to the daily responsibilities, this person will assist in managing technology related maintenance agreements, operating computer mannequins, related operating software, and A/V equipment.

They will also assist with locating and managing medical supplies required for simulation and clinical skills activities. The majority of tasks supporting efficient and effective use of clinical simulation technology products will impact CUSOM (faculty, staff, and students) but will also support the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, other university programs, and external health agencies, including Campbell University-affiliated graduate medical education programs, utilizing simulation resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the coordination of OSCE, SIM and classroom schedules consistent with SIM Center policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the maintenance of an accurate inventory of hardware, software, equipment, and supplies.
  • Set up simulation and skills training equipment and other learning technology interfaces to meet needs of faculty and students.
  • Operate computer hardware and audio-video recording systems.
  • Operate simulation equipment with the ability to make appropriate adjustments based on participant actions and faculty direction.
  • Assist the faculty with organization, preparation, and implementation of patient simulator modules.
  • Identify and implement solutions to problems related to simulation and task training equipment, computer hardware, and software.
  • Repair and maintain equipment as required or initiate repairs for equipment under warranty.
  • Communicate with manufacturers regarding maintenance, repairs, updates, and technology changes.
  • Communicate both technical and non-technical matters effectively in person and in writing with a diverse population.
  • Acquire and maintain skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies in the Health Sciences division.
  • Meet with Director of Simulation Education, Director of Clinical Education, Director of Ultrasound Training, the Coordinator for SIM Center Operations, and the Technical Director of the SIM Center on a regular basis to discuss current issues related to logistics, equipment, or technology and plan for future technology needs.
  • Assist in maintaining reference materials for simulation and task training equipment and related audio-visual and computer hardware and software.
  • Train and assist faculty on operation of equipment.
  • Develop and Quick-Guide reference aids for faculty related to new and existing equipment and technology.
  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing new and innovative ways to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Recommend and implement changes in work processes to improve quality of service.
  • Contribute effectively to a positive work environment that demonstrates and supports a learning-centered environment.
  • Promote and model an interdisciplinary team approach in the conduct of daily operations.
  • Reinforce and maintain high ethical standards of conduct and procedures to assist in ensuring the security of CUSOM’s technology assets and data.
