Authora Care Collective is currently seeking a Benefits & Wellness Specialist for our Burlington/Greensboro campuses. This is a full‑time hybrid position Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm.

Job Summary

Benefits & Wellness Specialist will support employees in a complex healthcare environment. This role is responsible for the administration of employee benefit programs, leave management, workers’ compensation, and related compliance functions. This role will focus on innovation and efficiency in ways that meaningfully benefit both our employees and the organization. This position is centered on driving innovation and efficiency to create a positive, lasting impact for our employees and the organization.

This role will advance innovative and efficient practices that support our people while strengthening the organization overall.

Due to the scope and immediacy of operational needs, this role is best suited for an HR professional with established, hands‑on experience who can manage responsibilities independently. While limited transitional support may be available through an HR consultant, this position is not intended as an entry‑level or training role.

Requirements
  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive Human Resources experience with direct responsibility for benefits, leave administration, and workers’ compensation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage FMLA and workers’ compensation independently.
  • Strong working knowledge of benefits‑related employment laws and regulations.
  • Experience processing and reconciling benefits invoices.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and emotional intelligence.
  • Experience in healthcare, hospice, or nonprofit organizations.
  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP).
  • Prior HR Generalist or employee relations exposure.
  • Other:
    Valid state‑issued driver's license required. Must carry automobile liability insurance at limits required by agency. Must have own transportation.
Benefits Administration
  • Administer medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and voluntary benefit programs.
  • Serve as a primary resource for employee benefit questions and enrollment support.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment, including vendor communication and HRIS updates.
  • Partner with payroll to ensure accurate deductions and timely issue resolution.
Leave Management
  • Independently manage FMLA, personal leave, military leave, and applicable state leave programs.
  • Track documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with employees navigating medical or family‑related situations.
Workers’ Compensation
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims from initial report through closure.
  • Coordinate with employees, leadership, carriers, and third‑party administrators.
  • Support return‑to‑work processes and documentation.
Benefits Billing & Invoicing
  • Process and reconcile monthly benefits invoices.
  • Research discrepancies and collaborate with vendors for resolution.
  • Maintain accurate financial and compliance documentation.
Wellness & Employee Support
  • Support employee wellness initiatives aligned with Authora Care’s mission.
  • Assist with benefits education and communication.
Employee Relations Support (Back‑Up)
  • Provide back‑up support for employee relations matters including documentation, investigations, and policy interpretation as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and sound professional judgment.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with FMLA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, and Workers’ Compensation regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with audits and reporting requirements.
