Position Overview
The Associate Vice Chancellor of Information Technology and Deputy Chief Information Officer (Deputy CIO) provides leadership and guidance in critical areas of information technology. The Deputy CIO leads infrastructure operations, major initiatives, technology evaluation, business continuity and disaster recovery efforts, support for research and high‑performance systems, and integration of information security throughout the university’s infrastructure. The Deputy CIO works with university leaders to prioritize projects and allocate resources, providing technical expertise in planning, infrastructure, and information security.
The Deputy CIO works with other leaders to ensure a high level of service to faculty, staff, and students, and a high level of performance and security from technology systems. The Deputy CIO reports to the Vice Chancellor of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (CIO) and is a key member of the Information Technology Services leadership team. This position leads the division in the CIO’s absence and oversees the departments of Enterprise Endpoint Management and Network and System Administration.

Coordinate infrastructure operations, major initiatives, technology evaluation, business continuity, disaster recovery, high‑performance research systems, and information security integration across the campus.
Prioritize institutional technology projects, allocate resources, and provide technical guidance to support faculty, staff, and students.
Qualifications- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and six years of experience in technical management in a higher education or similar environment, including significant technical knowledge of networking, systems, applications, security, business continuity, and disaster recovery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and eight years of experience in technical management in a higher education or similar environment, including significant technical knowledge of networking, systems, applications, security, business continuity, and disaster recovery.
- Knowledge of the current and developing strategic information technology requirements of a major research university.
- Extensive demonstrated experience in the monitoring, management, oversight, and strategic expansion of communications and system infrastructures, advanced network topologies, and enterprise applications in a higher education setting.
- Extensive experience in deploying and implementing secure enterprise technology systems in a complex environment that provide resilient and highly available services.
- Experience in cloud or shared technology deployments among multiple institutions.
- Proven experience in leading multiple large units as part of a larger complex organization and in fostering a positive team‑spirited technology culture in a higher education environment.
- Demonstrated experience in service development, deployment and management.
- Experience in the development of strategic and operational plans, and development of project goals and objectives.
- Ability to provide effective and appropriate strategic guidance and counsel to clients in the assessment and development of technology systems and solutions.
- Competent in operational budget management and ability to identify and secure alternative funding sources.
- Competent in financial and business analysis techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in different communities.
- Skill in effectively organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Ability to develop and evaluate requests for proposals for leading‑edge information services technology.
- An advanced degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with ten years’ experience.
