Role Overview
As a Senior IT UNIX / Linux Engineer, you will be responsible for the administration, performance, availability, and continuous improvement of UNIX and Linux server environments across GXO’s cloud platforms, data centers, and distribution sites.
What You Will DoMaintain UNIX/Linux server environments, develop and implement system enhancements, create automation scripts, evaluate and deploy new technologies, and lead infrastructure projects.
Why It Might Be a FitYou will need to have strong expertise with UNIX/Linux system administration, experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and ability to develop and troubleshoot shell scripts.
Requirements- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or equivalent related work or military experience
- 5–7 years of UNIX/Linux system administration experience within a production environment
- Strong expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8 and
9), Debian, Solaris, and HPUX operating systems - Experience administering VMware vSphere environments
- Experience with Rubrik backup software and enterprise backup technologies
- Ability to develop and troubleshoot shell scripts
- Strong knowledge of Linux system administration, user account management, patch management, and security best practices
- Experience managing Linux logical volume management (LVM and SSM)
- Ability to identify and resolve system, resource, storage, and networking issues using tools such as sar, top, and nmon
- Experience with Docker, Ansible, and Terraform
- Understanding of networking technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, NTP, and routing concepts
- Experience with LDAP authentication and enterprise identity management
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Solar Winds
- Knowledge of IT service management processes and tools, including Service Now and ITIL frameworks
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a matrixed environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create detailed technical documentation
