Shift: 2nd Shift | 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM Position Overview
A precision optical manufacturing organization is seeking a Surface Lab Technician to support digital lens production. In this role, you will be at the heart of our production process, transforming semi-finished lens blanks into precision-engineered prescription lenses using advanced digital surfacing technology. This hands-on role operates advanced CNC and automated equipment to transform semi-finished lens blanks into precision prescription lenses while maintaining strict quality standards.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare lens blanks for processing through blocking, generating, polishing, and de-blocking operations.
- Operate and monitor CNC generators and automated polishing equipment to produce precision lens surfaces.
- Perform laser engraving and ensure accurate placement of required lens identification markings.
- Safely de-block, clean, and prepare finished lenses for downstream coating processes.
- Inspect lenses for scratches, pits, waves, and other defects using lensometers and specialized lighting.
- Follow job-ticket specifications, production procedures, and quality requirements with a high degree of accuracy.
- Perform basic equipment monitoring, adjustments, and calibration-related tasks as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to operate computer-controlled equipment.
- High attention to detail and ability to handle delicate optical materials.
- Basic math skills, including algebra, decimals, and reading numerical specifications.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Previous optical laboratory, CNC, or precision manufacturing experience preferred.
- Willingness to learn and train on specialized optical manufacturing processes.
