Summaryof our History
Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ was founded in 1835 by John Hanks. The church began as a Christian church, then a congregational Christian church, and now the United Church of Christ. After a 1957 merger, we have approximately 50 members, of whom 25 to 35 are actively involved. These active members come at least one Sunday a quarter and support the church financially.
Approximately 20 of these members currently participate in all church councils and events.
We are looking for a Senior Pastor who is warm, approachable, and comfortable ministering to people of all ages. This leader will guide our church through a pivotal period of change, providing spiritual leadership and vision while fostering a sense of unity and purpose within our congregation.
Key Responsibilities- Preach and teach with clarity and inspiration, delivering sermons that resonate with a diverse audience.
- Provide pastoral care and support to congregation members, including counseling and outreach.
- Facilitate worship services, rituals, and special events that reflect our church’s mission and values.
- Lead church programs and initiatives that promote community engagement and spiritual growth.
- Collaborate with church leaders and committees to ensure effective governance and strategic planning.
- Foster an inclusive environment that welcomes individuals of all backgrounds and ages.
- Encourage and mentor church staff and volunteers, nurturing their personal and spiritual development.
- Promote outreach efforts that extend our mission beyond the church walls into the community.
