OverviewThis part-time temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Health & Human Services - DSOHF - Black Mountain Neuro Med Treatment Center. The primary purpose of the Lead Nurse is to provide professional nursing care and encourage independent function in care that is individualized. The Lead Nurse identifies health problems needing physician attention and works closely with the physician to provide medical care.
The Lead Nurse is part of the interdisciplinary team and instructs and monitors staff with direct resident care.
- Provide professional nursing care and support residents’ rights and decision making.
- Identify health problems and collaborate with physicians to provide medical care.
- Work with the interdisciplinary team to ensure an integrated approach to care.
- Instruct and monitor staff who have direct care contact with residents.
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
- Knowledge of professional principles, nursing theory, medications and their dosages, effects and contraindications.
- Working knowledge of dietetics, sanitation, personal hygiene, and infection control.
- Ability to organize work, prepare and maintain reports, and maintain nursing records.
- Ability to gain the confidence of residents and work effectively with them, staff and families.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and staff.
- CPR and AED knowledge and computer skills.

This is a temporary position with no leave or retirement benefits offered. Temporary employees who work an annual average of 30+ hours per week may be eligible for HDHP health insurance.
