Join our new Ambulatory Surgery Center and take on a pivotal leadership role where you will guide the intra‑operative team, optimize workflow, and support the highest standards of outpatient surgical care. As the ASC Charge Nurse, you will coordinate daily operations, lead and develop clinical staff, collaborate with peri‑anesthesia partners, and ensure an exceptional patient and family experience. Intra‑operative & Operational Leadership- Manages daily intra‑operative processes to optimize patient outcomes, satisfaction, and resource utilization.
- Ensures clear, timely peri‑operative communication between all clinical areas.
- Supervises, organizes, and implements the daily surgical schedule.
- Collaborates with surgical schedulers and physician offices to ensure accurate case scheduling and appropriate OR time availability.
- Works closely with the Anesthesia Coordinator to support patient flow, place add‑on cases, and assign staff based on clinical competency.
- Assists with compliance to all regulatory agency requirements and manages vendor/visitor access.
- Minimizes room turnover times through active supervision and effective communication.
- Collaborates with physicians and staff to maintain efficient use of surgical time.
- Addresses and resolves interdisciplinary conflicts professionally and productively.
- Communicates respectfully and collaboratively with physicians, peers, staff, and managers.
- Coordinates emergency responses (e.g., Code Yellow, Code Blue, power outages).
- Reviews and adjusts daily staffing assignments to ensure appropriate skill mix and coverage.
- Partners with Surgical Specialists, Team Leaders, and leadership to identify opportunities for supply standardization and cost‑effective resource utilization.
- Reports near misses, adverse events, patient concerns, and safety issues promptly.
- Conducts proactive rounding in pre‑op and post‑op areas to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Delegates and assigns tasks to RNs, nursing care technicians, and unit secretaries in compliance with regulatory and organizational policies.
- Ensures strict adherence to infection control procedures.
- Prioritizes and manages patient delays efficiently.
- Initiates service recovery actions when appropriate.
- Utilizes patient satisfaction metrics to support action plans in key focus areas.
- Promotes the Advocate Experience by engaging and holding staff accountable to service excellence strategies.
- Partners with the Nurse Liaison to ensure exceptional patient and family experiences.
- Participates in competency assessments for clinical team members.
- Monitors orientees and provides meaningful feedback to clinical leadership.
- Serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and coach for nursing staff.
- Collaborates with Surgical Specialists to ensure compliance with physician privilege requirements.
- Communicates performance or behavioral concerns to the unit manager in alignment with the Behaviors of Excellence.
- Coordinates staff development and educational activities in partnership with leadership.
- Maintains all unit‑based and hospital‑based competencies.
- Demonstrates appropriate psychosocial interventions based on patient age and developmental needs.
- Ensures a safe environment and evaluates environmental risks as needed.
- Participates in unit and hospital activities, including in‑services, UPC, and quality teams.
- Integrates new learning into clinical practice to continuously improve care.
- Adheres to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Maintains confidentiality and protects patient privacy at all times.
