Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Non-Exempt
Job OverviewThe Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) functions in an assistive role in the provisions of patient care services through regular assignments or delegated tasks and is supervised by the RN. The CNA demonstrates the ability to carry out specific tasks with reasonable skill and safety that adheres to the prevailing standard of practice in the nursing community.
Duties- Document all tasks completed, checking and documenting patient pulse, temperature and respiration.
- Assist patients in simple prescribed exercises and range of motion.
- Maintain records to report and discuss observations with a supervisor or case manager.
- Provide assistance with movement in and out of beds, baths, wheelchairs or automobiles, and with dressing and grooming.
- Change bed linens, wash and iron patient laundry, and clean patient quarters.
- Perform a variety of duties as requested by the client, such as running errands and preparing meals.
- Function as a team member, demonstrating collaboration with the patient, physician and the health care team.
- Observe significant changes in patient status and communicate to the RN case manager.
- Attend multidisciplinary team meetings and document attendance via sign‑in sheets.
- Communicate to RN case manager or director of clinical services as needed.
- Participate in agency‑mandated activities such as in‑services.
- Graduation from an approved certification program, accredited school, or undergraduate/graduate/post‑graduate education.
- Current, unencumbered state certification to practice as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- Professional experience required per state regulations to perform the job as described.
- Successful completion of assigned screening/competency testing with a proficiency score of 80% or greater.
- Provide copy of current TB results or Chest X‑Ray.
- Provide copy of current CPR certification.
- Be flexible, organized, and have the ability to exercise sound judgment to perform the job duties/responsibilities as described.
- Ability to sit, stand, stop, bend, kneel, walk, balance, crouch, crawl, push, pull and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to frequently lift and move up to 15 pounds regularly and occasionally lift or move 100 pounds or more if applicable.
- Ability to perform the anticipated level of physical assist required to provide safe client care.
The work environment is highly variable; care is generally provided in private homes. Lighting, acoustics, air quality, temperature and environmental hazards are not predictable. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, household pets or animals, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is required to travel frequently to complete home health visits.
