Role Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider in Psychiatry Care provides specialized care to patients with mental health conditions in collaboration with a psychiatrist(s). The APP assesses patients, interprets diagnostic test results, and develops and implements treatment plans to address the patient's unique needs in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
This role requires a high level of clinical expertise and the ability to work with patients who may have complex mental health needs. Psychiatry Care includes both Inpatient and Outpatient APPs working in Psychiatry/Behavioral Health Medicine. The position is located at the Behavioral Health Unit Crisis Center (BHUC), a 24/7 facility providing timely access to mental health services for children, adolescents, and adults presenting in a mental health crisis.
EssentialJob Functions
- Performs physical assessments of the patient, reviews their medical history, and interprets diagnostic tests/results in order to provide effective treatment for the patient.
- Conducts preventive health screenings based on the patient's age, history, and unique needs to provide proactive health care.
- Educates patients and their family about psychiatric medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up.
- Maintains record of all patient care in order to ensure accurate patient history.
- Performs psychiatric medical procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines and clinical roles.
- Identifies ways to improve psychiatric patient care by assessing, problem‑solving, and evaluating clinical and system issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Required:
Master's Degree in Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification.
- Preferred: 1–3 years as advanced practice provider.
- Required:
Valid NC RN and NP license or PA‑C license.
