Telephone Nurse Triage - Wake Neurosurgery On-Site

Position Overview

Department: Neurosurgery – Surgery, Wake Forest Health Network, Greensboro.
Status: Full time.
Hours per week: 40.
Pay Range: $35.50 - $53.25.

• Provides patient/family centered care, acting as partner and adviser to assist and support patients and families in managing their health care, respecting their culture and values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences.
• Applies critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment, especially for patients with complex or potentially life‑threatening conditions, using telecommunication technologies (telephone, fax, e‑mail, internet, patient portal).
• Ensures proper scheduling and follow‑up on test results for providers. Explains test results and medications to patients using active listening, approved protocols, and evidence‑based practice.
• Uses the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Nurses in professional obligations toward patients.
• Participates in professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking appropriate educational offerings.
• Promotes patient safety and quality of nursing care by applying nursing interventions such as clarifying patient needs, conducting health education, advocating for patients, coordinating services, and evaluating outcomes.
• Maintains knowledge of care teams for coordination of patient care and communication skills.
• Adapts communication style to meet diverse patient backgrounds.
• Demonstrates exceptional assessment, critical thinking, and customer service skills.
• Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with two years of acute care experience required (BSN preferred).
• Previous experience in telephone triage and with health insurance and managed care concepts preferred.
• Current RN license in the applicable state;
  Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required; licensure in other states as required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within one year in select areas.
• Proficiency in using computers, electronic medical records, and new software.
• Excellent communication and teaching skills with patients, families, and staff.

• Assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients through technology.
• Seek resources independently and work collaboratively.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper tools.
• Adapt communication style to meet diverse needs.

Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, finger and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing;
Lifting up to 20 lbs. (maximum), 50 lbs., and 100 lbs. (maximum) as applicable.

• Base compensation within the listed pay range based on qualifications and experience.
