Position Title
Research Technician
Job SummaryThe Research Technician (RT) will work in the Molecular Virology and Immunology laboratories in the Department of Animal Sciences. The RT will support and report to the Principal Investigator(s) in all aspects of research activities, manage daily laboratory operations, and oversee student training.
Primary Responsibilities- Assist PIs and independently perform specialized research procedures, tissue culture, toxicological and immunological assays, and minor animal surgery/necropsy/tissue harvest.
- Perform molecular, biochemical and histology procedures (western blot, ELISA, PCR) and calculate/prepare media, reagents, and chemical solutions.
- Train and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in lab safety, operations and experimental techniques.
- Manage laboratory organization, labeling, equipment maintenance, inventory, and biosafety compliance.
- Coordinate experiments with ancillary units, perform data collection, organization and analysis for reports, abstracts, manuscripts and grants.
- Prioritize and execute immunology and molecular virology experiments to ensure timely completion and analysis.
- Maintain lab calendar of activities, record monthly expenses, and oversee ordering of supplies.
- Knowledge of molecular virology and immunology, with mastery of instrumentation and software.
- Proficiency in laboratory operations, including equipment operation, sample preparation, and safety protocols.
- Data collection and analysis skills, including use of statistical software and preparation of spreadsheets.
- Laboratory management, with responsibility for biosafety level 1‑2 compliance and equipment maintenance.
- Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or a related field.
- More than three years of research experience in agricultural or veterinary research, with direct experience in swine or poultry.
- Experience supervising graduate and undergraduate students.
- Advanced expertise in molecular biology techniques such as RNA extraction, PCR, flow cytometry, and sequencing.
- Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday (additional weekend availability may be required). - Workplace:
