As a Water Quality Analyst, you will lead the collection, management, and interpretation of water quality data to ensure regulatory compliance and environmental protection. This position combines technical expertise, project management, fieldwork, and collaboration—supporting both internal teams and external partners in protecting Greensboro’s water resources.
About the DepartmentThe Stormwater Management Division works to protect streams, reduce pollutant loading, and promote sustainable water practices throughout the City. Through monitoring, modeling, inspections, and public engagement, the Division ensures compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations while preserving aquatic health for future generations.

The Water Quality Analyst is responsible for managing and analyzing all water quality monitoring data and delivering detailed scientific and statistical reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing advanced data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of water quality results
- Managing special studies, research projects, and grant opportunities
- Preparing RFPs, developing and managing contracts, and overseeing project implementation
- Conducting inspections of industrial facilities for regulatory compliance
- Providing project management for the biological sampling program to assess aquatic health
- Performing specialized water quality modeling and pollutant loading estimation using complex software
- Interpreting and applying local, state, and federal environmental regulations
- Providing technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders
This position includes regular fieldwork in potentially hazardous environments such as stream beds and during inclement weather. Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds) and traversing uneven terrain are required. Some work may occur outside the standard 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. schedule.

This position is NON-EXEMPT under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree OR an equivalency of an Associate's Degree plus 4 years in the area of Pollution Prevention, Water Quality monitoring, and directly related experience as it pertains to the job description.
- OR an equivalency of a High School Diploma, and 3 years of education with 6+ years of Pollution Prevention, Water Quality monitoring, and directly related experience as it pertains to the job description.
- 1+ years of experience in the area of Pollution Prevention, Water Quality monitoring, and directly related experience as it pertains to the job description.
- Must be proficient with computer applications such as MS Office, etc.
- Valid Driver's License
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geography, Chemistry, Ecology, Zoology, Geology, or Natural Resources
- Related work experience and/or education in the area of Pollution Prevention, Water Quality monitoring, and/or Stormwater Management
- Related work experience and/or education in performing stormwater inspections of Industrial Facilities and Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs).
