Temporary Public Safety Ambassadors Pool
Position Overview: The primary purpose of this temporary position is to provide an effective and efficient link between the university community and the university police department’s operations and services 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Ambassadors support campus operations through protective, security, enforcement and public contact work, acting as additional eyes and ears for campus safety.
Classification & CompensationClassification Type: SHRA.
Compensation: $12–$17 per hour.
Employment Type:
Temporary, Part‑time (20–25 hours per week).
- Serve as additional eyes and ears for the university police department.
- Provide timely notifications of hazards, suspicious persons/activity, medical or other emergencies to command staff.
- Maintain reports to account for services provided.
- Be approachable, proactive, and aware of persons who appear lost or looking for assistance.
- Provide the public with accurate directions, information and assistance relative to NC A&T State University students, faculty, and visitors.
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (college education preferred).
- Experience in security is preferred, but not mandatory.
- Ability to interact cordially and communicate with a diverse community.
- Ability to operate a portable radio and provide clear transmissions.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to assess and evaluate situations quickly, accurately and effectively.
- Must be able to accurately follow SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Must have reliable transportation and be punctual for assigned shifts.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a strong and verifiable work history, preferably with customer service experience.
- Must submit to a background check including criminal history, personal and professional references.
- Must maintain a neat, clean, and well‑groomed appearance at all times.
- Must be physically able to work in all kinds of weather environments and scenarios.
