Agency Adult Correction Division COO - OPS - Institutions Operations – Correctional Officer III (S) – Position # , Grade CR07. This role supports the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections as a Regional Correctional Transportation Officer. The Officer will report to the Regional Security Coordinator in the Central Region Office in Raleigh, NC, and serve the Central Region.
Key Responsibilities- Exercise independent decision-making within established policies and procedures while physically separated from supervisory personnel.
- Provide custody supervision of offender(s) in department vehicles during transport.
- Enforce rules and regulations for the safety, health, and protection of offenders.
- Conduct searches of people, places, and objects.
- Perform rescue functions, including CPR, basic first aid, and use of fire equipment such as hoses, extinguishers, and breathing apparatuses.
- Establish and maintain control of violent or uncooperative offenders, and defend oneself or others from violent attacks.
- Load, unload, aim, and fire handguns, shotguns, and rifles at required proficiency levels, maintaining professional demeanor amid mental or verbal abuse.
- Effectively communicate with offenders, staff, and members of the public.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Regional Office.
- Minimum education:
High School diploma or GED and two years of experience as a Correctional Officer, or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Background screening, negative drug test, medical & psychological evaluations, and valid driver’s license required.
- Experience in offender supervision, weapons and security equipment, and searches is preferred.
- Eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
- Must meet 12 NCAC 09G .0302 Criminal Justice Standards requirements.
