Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is the maintenance and repair of campus plumbing systems, including installation and repair of plumbing fixtures, planned and preventative maintenance on water and sewage disposal systems. This position reports to the Plumbing Shop supervisor and handles routine maintenance of domestic water, heating equipment, and other assigned tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Safety
- Perform all work in a safe manner.
- Observe all OSHA regulations and university safety policies.
- Report accidents to supervisor immediately.
- Attend 16 hours of safety training each year.
- Preventive and Corrective Maintenance
- Perform scheduled PM tasks on equipment and systems.
- Evaluate PM tasks and provide recommendations to PM coordinator.
- Survey buildings to identify equipment not on PM program.
- Initiate corrective work orders for major repairs and respond to trouble calls.
- Plumbing
- Install and repair domestic cold and hot water piping.
- Install and repair sewer systems.
- Install and repair water heaters and circulation pumps.
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures and water fountains.
- Test and repair backflow devices.
- Construction – In House
- Support in‑house renovation/construction projects with plumbing work.
- Submit labor and material reports to supervisor daily.
- Ensure sufficient materials are on hand and vehicle is available for service.
- Perform tasks assigned by supervisor as required.
- Administrative
- Maintain accurate labor and material records.
- Submit labor and material reports to TMA work order log daily.
- Manage warehouse quantities of frequently used materials.
- Keep assigned vehicle clean and ready for service.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or demonstrated possession of competencies necessary to perform the work.
- Some positions may require special licenses or certifications.
- Optional guideline: experience in the trade area related to the assignment may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive plumbing experience in an institutional or commercial environment.
- Plumbing license and back‑flow certification for testing and repairing.
- Valid driver’s license.
