Position Summary

This skilled position operates, maintains, repairs, and upgrades automated fire alarm systems on campus, including hardware and software preventive maintenance, and participates in an on‑call rotation.

Primary duties: 40% repair, 40% maintenance of fire alarm and safety equipment, 15% record keeping and administration, and 5% in‑house construction.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Electronics or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from accredited institutions.

Certifications

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • NICET Level II or higher certification in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Factory certifications by at least two major fire alarm manufacturers in programming and operations of their systems.
  • Experience reviewing various phases of building design in reference to life safety systems.
  • Experience conducting system operational testing, inspections, and commissioning of life safety access‑control systems.
  • Experience working with state agencies such as NCDOI, NCDOL, and NCDOSC.
  • Experience prioritizing, scheduling, assigning, and managing workload including service orders, preventive maintenance programs, emergency requests, and backlogs.
Responsibilities
  • Perform emergency service, repairs, and system outages to campus fire protection systems, including centralized hardware/software and peripheral panels.
  • Act as a technical liaison for Facilities Operations regarding these systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and testing of fire protection systems per applicable codes and requirements.
  • Assist with completing tasks to ensure proper operational status of systems.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records for fire protection systems, including facility plans and technical data, and provide documentation to required departments.
  • Participate in in‑house construction or renovation life safety work, ensuring adequate labor, materials, and vehicle availability, and submit daily reports.
Physical and Work Environment

Requires repetitive hand movements, lifting up to 30 lbs., use of PPE, and exposure to heights, electrical hazards, and night/dark conditions. Work may involve driving vehicles, operating equipment, and working in roofs, ladders, and scaffolds.

Salary Range

$52,549 - $58,388 per year.
