Maintenance Technician Welding and Pipe fitting

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician , Welding and Pipe fitting, is a skilled maintenance position primarily responsible for welding, pipe fitting, metal fabrication, and the installation, modification, and repair of plant piping and production equipment.

Approximately 70% of this position’s work will involve welding, pipe fitting, and fabrication
, with the remaining 30% supporting mechanical repairs, equipment installation, preventive maintenance, and other general maintenance activities
.

This position will work closely with experienced maintenance personnel to strengthen the plant’s internal welding and fabrication capabilities, develop proficiency with plant‑specific piping and equipment, and provide dependable support for daily operations, projects, and shutdown activities.

Primary Work Allocation Welding, Pipe fitting, and Fabrication:
Approximately 70%
  • Carbon steel and stainless steel welding
  • Industrial pipe fitting and piping installation
  • Equipment and piping modifications
  • Metal fabrication and structural repairs
  • Welding support for projects, breakdowns, and shutdowns
  • Inspection, preparation, and repair of welded components
General Industrial Maintenance:
Approximately 30%
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and equipment repair
  • Pump, valve, piping, and instrumentation‑related maintenance
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Equipment installation and modification
  • Facility and production‑equipment support
  • Emergency and shutdown maintenance

Actual work assignments may vary based on plant conditions, production requirements, projects, shutdown activities, and maintenance priorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned based on operational and maintenance needs.

Welding, Pipe fitting, and Fabrication
  • Perform welding, pipe fitting, cutting, fitting, and metal fabrication to support production equipment, utility systems, process piping, facility systems, capital projects, and equipment improvements.
  • Weld carbon steel and stainless steel piping, fittings, supports, structural components, equipment parts, and fabricated assemblies.
  • Perform welding using applicable processes based on the material, equipment, and job requirements.
  • Operate welding machines, cutting torches, plasma cutters, grinders, saws, pipe preparation tools, and other fabrication equipment.
  • Measure, cut, bevel, fit, align, tack, and weld piping and fabricated components.
  • Lay out and assemble piping systems using drawings, field measurements, established reference points, and job requirements.
  • Install, modify, and repair process piping, utility piping, pipe supports, equipment connections, and related components.
  • Remove damaged or obsolete piping and install replacement piping, valves, fittings, flanges, gaskets, and supports.
  • Fabricate brackets, guards, platforms, equipment supports, pipe supports, and other components as needed.
  • Perform field fitting and fabrication when existing conditions differ from drawings or planned dimensions.
  • Verify proper fit‑up, alignment, orientation, slope, clearance, and support before completing welded or mechanical connections.
  • Inspect completed work for visible defects, proper alignment, workmanship, and conformance with job requirements.
  • Identify welding or piping conditions that require additional evaluation, specialized procedures, inspection, or outside support.
  • Assist with pressure testing, leak testing, flushing, cleaning, and returning repaired or installed piping systems to service.
  • Protect adjacent equipment, instrumentation, wiring, insulation, and building components during welding and fabrication activities.
  • Maintain welding machines, leads, grounds, torches, regulators, hoses, fabrication tools, and related equipment in safe operating condition.
