The City of Greensboro is seeking an experienced and skilled Heavy Duty Trucks & Equipment Diesel Technician to join our team and help keep essential City vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, and ready for service. The City's Equipment Services operation plays a critical role in keeping Greensboro's departments equipped to deliver essential services. Our technicians maintain a diverse fleet of heavy trucks and truck-mounted equipment used across City operations. Through preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and skilled repairs, the team helps ensure City employees have dependable equipment when and where they need it.

As a Heavy Duty Trucks & Equipment Diesel Technician, you will perform a wide range of diagnostic, repair, and preventive maintenance work on heavy trucks and truck‑mounted equipment. This is the full journey-level classification, requiring significant hands‑on experience and the ability to independently perform both minor and major equipment repairs.

Key responsibilities include:

• Diagnosing mechanical and equipment problems and determining appropriate repairs.
• Performing minor and major repairs on heavy trucks and truck‑mounted equipment.
• Conducting preventive maintenance to help extend equipment life and reliability.
• Following established safety practices and procedures during all maintenance and repair activities.
• Using technical knowledge and sound judgment to troubleshoot complex equipment issues.
• Maintaining a high standard of quality and workmanship.
• Working with a variety of tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized equipment.
• Maintaining personal tools necessary to perform assigned duties.

The position requires four years of journey-level experience performing minor and major repairs on heavy trucks and equipment.
