Marvin’s Hardware & Building Materials is looking for an Assistant Store Manager – Lumberyard to help lead daily operations and deliver an exceptional customer experience. This is a hands-on leadership role focused primarily on our lumberyard and outdoor operations, so you’ll spend much of your time working outside in all types of weather.

The ideal candidate has experience with lumber, building materials, hardware, or a related industry and enjoys working with customers, leading a team, and keeping things moving in a fast-paced environment.

When the Store Manager is unavailable, the Assistant Store Manager takes the lead on overall store operations and helps ensure the team, customers, merchandise, and daily business are taken care of.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead and support lumberyard and outdoor operations, including receiving, stocking, loading, customer pickups, and deliveries.
  • Provide knowledgeable, friendly service to customers and help them find the right products for their projects.
  • Lead by example and create a team environment where associates know what’s expected and feel supported.
  • Assist with daily store operations and take the lead in the Store Manager’s absence.
  • Help drive sales, profitability, customer satisfaction, and other store goals.
  • Ensure merchandise is received, stored, stocked, and merchandised safely and accurately.
  • Monitor lumberyard organization, inventory, equipment, and safety standards.
  • Ensure customer orders are loaded accurately and efficiently and that deliveries are handled on schedule.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, coaching, and development of store associates.
  • Help identify opportunities to grow sales and strengthen relationships with contractors and commercial customers.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures and ensure company policies and operational standards are followed.
  • Become certified and proficient in required areas, including forklifts, receiving, DOT requirements, gate operations, and service desk functions.
  • Develop product knowledge and become proficient in key customer service functions throughout the store.
  • Address customer or operational issues quickly and professionally.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • Lumber, building materials, hardware, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and motivate a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking initiative.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working primarily outdoors in the lumberyard year-round and in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate or learn to operate forklifts and other equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle large or awkward materials.
  • Ability to climb, bend, twist, kneel, reach, and work in overhead areas.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
