This position requires judgement to comply with instructions and standard procedures. It is responsible for inspecting, trimming, pruning, and removing trees and vegetation that interfere with electric distribution power lines, substations, and utility rights‑of‑way. This position helps maintain safe, reliable electrical service by ensuring vegetation complies with utility clearance standards while following industry safety regulations. Assist linemen in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution system.

• According to safety guidelines and visually inspecting for safe conditions, use tractors, bushhogs, chain saws, pole saws and other handheld tools to clear trees, brush and shrubs from under distribution lines as well as delimb small trees. May apply herbicides to control brush and small trees in ROW. As needed, assist linemen with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switch gear.
  
  Identify primary and secondary voltage on a circuit and assist in replacing fuses in transformers and clearing faulted circuits and systems. Set, align and frame poles according to RUS standards. Handle cables, dig pole and anchor holes, set anchors, etc., to assist line crews.
• As needed, operate vehicles to ensure proper placement at the job site, including but not limited to bucket trucks, digger trucks, etc. Utilize the bucket to install pole top material on de‑energized lines; hang transformers. Connect services using the proper connectors based on wire size and combinations. Identify primary and secondary pole top assemblies.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order. Perform preventative maintenance on tools by sharpening blades, replacing handles, sprockets, chains, etc. as required. Wash trucks. Perform flagman duties and traffic control to protect employees and the public from injury. Operate radio communication equipment, abiding by Cooperative rules.
• Explain to members, as needed, the Cooperative’s policies and procedures related to right‑of‑way clearance. Handle complaints or problems with courtesy and tact and refer members to supervisor as needed. Ensure the work site is clean and free from debris following completed work. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

High School diploma or GED required. Acceptable performance in lineman school preferred or ability to complete course upon hire.

Experience:

Must be able to obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License and DOT Medical Card within six months of hire date. Experience in working in a logging environment preferred.

Must be willing to work non‑duty hours, including overtime, holidays, and weekends in emergency situations. Must be willing to work as a “B” person on standby. Must be able to obtain 60% participation on call‑out duty. Must be willing to travel overnight occasionally for training.

Special Requirements:
Must be willing to participate in specialized training as requested. Must be able to successfully complete the lineman apprenticeship program, which includes becoming a qualified climber and proficiently demonstrating the ability to perform pole‑top and bucket rescue at height up to 65 feet. Must be able to perform first aid and CPR as needed.

Must reside within 35 minutes of the Greenville office.

Continuous: concentration to detail, attention span of 1+ hours on a task, ability to remember multiple tasks. Frequent: ability to quickly store and recall instructions, oral communication, written communication. Rarely: occasional.

Working Conditions:

Continuous: hazardous work conditions, extreme heat, cold, temperature fluctuation. Frequent: hazardous chemicals. Infrequent: none.
