Primary FunctionThe Electrical Engineer is responsible for handling or supervising projects as directed by the Manager of Engineering. Projects include estimating cost, design, layout and specifications for materials and installation, obtaining bids for equipment and labor, and supervising the complete installation and startup. Projects range from minor modifications to large equipment installations. The Engineer assists maintenance personnel with electrical troubleshooting related to PLC, HMI, and other higher level electrical devices.
The role emphasizes safety, including Lockout/Tagout and Arc Flash/Electrical Safety Programs.
- Engineering Activities (~70% of Time)
- Design in‑house equipment modifications and new installations to provide increased productivity, utilizing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic knowledge.
- Troubleshoot maintenance and production problems on equipment to reduce downtime by applying technical knowledge and testing equipment.
- Plan, supervise, and communicate modifications to equipment to ensure safety, cost savings, and increased productivity.
- Prepare sketches for fabrication, modification, and installation of equipment to ensure safe and productive operation. Define parts, order parts, write reports, communicate project status, and update department project lists.
- Create new drawings and update existing ones using a CAD system.
- Other Misc. Duties (~30% of Time)
- Attend and contribute regularly to job‑related plant initiatives (e.g., Safety, COS, Cost Savings).
- Read and understand various schematics and electrical prints for equipment in CCM Greenville.
- Program and modify PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and other programmable equipment.
- Understand and adhere to electrical safety guidelines based on NFPA, OSHA, NEC, etc.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP, and AutoCAD.
- Utilize software associated with VFDs, PLCs, Wonderware, and HMIs used throughout CCM Greenville.
- Effective communication skills: written, oral, and electronic.
Operate electrical troubleshooting equipment such as a multimeter, megger, oscilloscope, current probe, and computer. Understand, modify, and train others on PLC, VFD, safety controllers, and other electrical control devices.
Education & Experience Requirements- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
- Equivalency:
Some college coursework with a scheduled completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering within six months of the hire date.
- Experience:
- Three or more years at a manufacturing facility working on electrical troubleshooting, PLC programming, VFD programming, HMIs, communication protocols, etc. Ability to function in a team environment, work well with others, and manage priorities.
- Work Environment:
- Approximately 70% of work time is spent in a climate‑controlled, relatively clean and quiet office environment. The remaining 30% is spent in a manufacturing plant environment working on projects or inventory activities.
- Core
Hours:
8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Additional time outside core hours may be required for projects and occasional phone calls during off hours.
Sitting, standing, climbing stairs, catwalks, silos, ladders, stooping, bending, and lifting are required. Sight and hearing are required to observe processes, personnel, and communicate for troubleshooting.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNo direct reports, but may supervise maintenance or production operators as needed.
Salary Range$75,000 - $125,000 (dependent on applicable education/experience).
