Quality Engineer
The Quality Engineer supports manufacturing quality at the site, aligning plant strategic goals to Quality requirements. This role executes on improvement objectives consistent with Tenneco's enterprise-wide standards. You will leverage your technical and operational knowledge in manufacturing quality control systems to ensure Tenneco products meet required customer standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Maintaining necessary records and initiating required actions to minimize the long range, overall quality costs of the organization in the interest of maximizing profit.
- Coordinating in-process and final inspection, dimensions, appearance and proper packaging of parts to assure quality parts at a minimum cost.
- Completing at the required intervals all audits including layered process audits.
- Reviewing scrap and repair work to pinpoint problems and recommend corrective action to minimize scrap thereby improving plant profit.
- Responding to customer quality concerns and maintaining the required customer-vendor relationship.
- Coordinating visits of customer representatives to our plant.
- Must be prepared to show conformance to their requirements regarding dimensions, appearance, packaging and labeling.
- Coordinating the training and use of computerized data collection system.
- Conducting and evaluating capability studies on both present and new equipment and processes.
- Providing documentation for production samples.
- Providing necessary surveillance over sample parts to ensure customer satisfaction at a minimum cost.
- Suggesting areas requiring process improvement.
- Actively using G-8D, FM TIPS, or other customer-required problem-solving tools.
- Maintaining familiarity with Quality Management System requirements and working to maintain IATF and all customer certifications.
- This position is authorized to make quality calls on non-conforming product up to and including stopping production to protect the customer.
- Serving as a team member when required and representing the Quality function (on teams such as APQP, Quality Systems audits, new business opportunities, etc.)
- Serving as Quality representative on product launch teams.
- Preparing PPAP, PSO, and other quality documentation for product launches.
- Acting as a liaison to customer.
- Maintaining records of customer quality concerns and PPM level for both OE and Aftermarket accounts.
- Conducting and providing direction on Gage R & R studies.
- Actively engaging with operations in Poke-Yoke implementation and verification activity on the production lines.
- Maintaining customer portals as necessary.
- Performing other duties as required.
Job requirements include:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- Min 3-5 years of experience in Quality Engineering function within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a Tier 1 automotive supplier environment preferred.
- Knowledge of Quality Systems (FMEAs, PPaPs, IATF, Ford Q1, DCX, GM, APQP, MSA, etc.)
- Gage R&R and Calibration experience a plus.
- Communication skills both verbal and written.
- Problem Solving acumen.
