About the Team:

The Relativity Space NDE Team is dedicated to the integrity of our product while tackling the challenges of our novel manufacturing methods. We are tasked with developing and executing inspection of a huge variety of materials and components using cutting‑edge industry technology. From crafting in‑house processes and procedures that adhere to industry standards, to executing inspection operations, our team maintains a steadfast commitment to accuracy and reliability.

About the Role:

  • Lead feasibility studies, probability of detection (POD) trials, and qualification plans in partnership with NDE Engineers and UT/PAUT Inspectors.
  • Develop, document, and publish part-specific PAUT inspection techniques for a wide range of parts and assemblies.
  • Perform UT/PAUT inspections using established and advanced methods, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • Serve as the primary subject-matter expert and point of contact for UT/PAUT inspection development.
  • Support the team to help facilitate inspections outside of your primary method(s), i.e. RT, ET, ECA, etc
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to design, implement, and optimize automated inspection systems.
  • Mentor other Specialists and Inspectors, guiding their development.
  • Conduct internal audits and act as technical POC for external audits
  • Manage technical tasks and oversee project segments, working independently with minimal supervision
  • Partner with vendors to troubleshoot, maintain, and improve inspection equipment and supporting technologies.
  • Evaluate PAUT datasets to determine inspection quality and apply accept/reject criteria.
  • Generate detailed, accurate documentation and formal reports of inspection results and analysis.
  • Communicate inspection findings and future opportunities to cross-functional stakeholders and external partners
  • Apply a deep understanding of NDE inspection plans, procedures, and techniques to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal quality requirements.

About You:

  • Current NDE Level II or III Certification in Ultrasonics (UTSW & PAUT)
  • Minimum of 10 years total experience in NDE; 6 of which shall be in a commercial aerospace manufacturing setting or other heavily regulated industry (Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Nuclear)
  • Experience/ Substantial input in multiple projects of medium to high complexity
  • Open to travel (10% - 25%)

Nice to haves but not required:

  • ASNT NDE Level 3 Certification in UT
  • NDE Level 2 Certification in ultrasonics Eddy Current (ET, ECA), dye penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), visual inspection (VT,CWI),
  • Familiarity with basic concepts of Radiographic Testing (RT)
  • Radiation Safety training
  • Experience with inspection of additively manufactured materials
  • Experience inspecting various materials and geometries
  • Knowledge of industry standards (NASA, AMS, AWS/ASME, ASTM, etc.)
