• Holds MS credentials as a registered nurse and holds an unrestricted license, BSN preferred.
• Certified in CPR.
• Demonstrated success in performing job duties.

School Principal and Assistant Superintendent.

• Provides preventive health services to facilitate the student's optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development.
• Supports the education process by working to assure the health of the students.
• Provides health assessments, obtains health history, screens and evaluates findings of deficits in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, etc., and for students failing tests, conducts follow‑up testing and sends letters for further examination.
• Conducts vision and hearing screening for students with academic difficulties or suspected problems, and on request of parents or teachers.
• Observes children for developmental and health patterns to perform nursing assessments.
• Develops and implements student health plans and interprets health status for parents and staff.
• Initiates referrals to parents, school personnel or community health resources for intervention and remediation.
• Provides ongoing health counseling with students, parents, staff and health agencies.
• Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.
• Maintains, evaluates, and interprets cumulative health data and accommodates individual needs.
• Plans and implements school health management protocols, including action plans for students with chronic health problems.
• Develops procedures and provides emergency nursing management for injuries and illnesses.
• Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases.
• Serves as a resource person to school staff in health instruction.
• Coordinates school and community health activities and serves as liaison between home, school and community.
• Provides consultation in forming health policies, goals and objectives for the district.
• Participates in IEP plan development where applicable.
• Performs duties assigned by the Principal and those mandated by the MS Department of Education.
• Conducts professional development activities related to medical needs of students.
• Plans and implements procedures and policies for assistance with medication administration.
• Collaborates with physical education instructors to support healthy physical education programs.
• Collaborates with food service employees to support healthy nutrition programs.
• Collaborates with staff to implement activities promoting health and preventing tobacco, alcohol and substance use and abuse.
• Acts as a resource person in promoting health careers to students.
• Collaborates with guidance staff to promote dropout prevention.
• Identifies health and safety concerns in the school environment, promoting a safe environment.
• Collects and reports clinical data as appropriate for MDE, MSDH or grant administrators.
• Will coordinate vision and hearing screening for kindergarten and fourth grades in the school district, and manage follow‑up procedures.
• Will conduct vision and hearing screenings upon teacher request for suspected visual or hearing problems or gifted screening referrals.
