Job Summary:

Supervises and trains line officers and administers programs for police officers and associated staff to ensure safety and security on all institutional properties. This individual also enforces laws, investigates complaints and incidents, maintains order, identifies criminal activity, and apprehends and arrest offenders.
1). Performs various law enforcement functions in assigned areas to preserve law and order, while promoting positive public service relationships with the community.
2). Conducts field training for peer officers and provides educational programming to the public.
3). Provides security escorts for special guests and university funds.
4). Prepares reports and assists with other administrative related duties.

Job Description:

Supervises officers through training, scheduling, and day-to-day activities.

Develops and communicates directives to staff and monitors compliance with rules and regulations.

Supervises and performs follow-up investigations and special surveillance.

Provides guidance to assigned officers testifying in court and reviews cases to ensure proper documentation.

Supervises and develops community-oriented police activities on assigned shifts.

Supervises enforcement of traffic and parking regulations.

Organizes and conducts crime prevention training programs to promote public awareness of crime risk and prevention methods.

Prepares and presents evidence in civil and criminal court and university proceedings.

Reviews and approves officer reports on incidents and criminal investigations.

Job Responsibilities:

Minimum requirement Internal Candidates:
Three (3) years of continuous experience as a Police Officer with The University of Mississippi Police Department orOne (1) year of continuous experience with The University of Mississippi Police Department, and a minimum of five (5) cumulative years of experience as a full-time, sworn officer with another law enforcement agency or agencies. Full-time status is calculated from the candidate’s completion date of a full-time academy or the equivalent in another state.

Minimum requirement External Candidates:
Verifiable supervisory experience at the sergeant level or above for a minimum of two (2) years.

Cover letter and resume must be attached for consideration.

Patrols assigned area to detect crime, violation of University regulations, and to ensure security.

Regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic; investigates traffic accidents and files accident reports; patrols campus to ensure vehicles are parked in designated lots with the proper permit; monitors lots and metered spaces for overtime parking, issues citations, and authorizes vehicle towing and bicycle impoundments.

Prepares incident reports and any other reports as assigned.

Facilities training, to include, participation in various crime prevention training programs to promote public awareness of crime risk and prevention methods.

Provides support to customer service personnel to enhance patron experience and manages crowd control at campus events.

Assists ambulance service, provides first-aid treatment, and emergency escort service to members of the University community and visitors.

Maintains quality standards, through education and research, stays abreast of advanced techniques and ideas designed to improve police performance.

Maintains public confidence and support by emphasizing public relations.

Provides security for special University events; provides transfer for University monies. Coordinates or provides escort for special guests of the University.
