Position Summary

Reporting to the Comptroller (or Asst Controller), the Senior Accounting Analyst is a professional exempt position responsible for general ledger activities. This position will have significant focus on philanthropic gifts, pledges and endowment accounting. This role will serve as a key accounting resource and liaison to the Office of Advancement. This position is well‑suited for a CPA candidate seeking continued growth in nonprofit and higher education accounting.

This position will require strong general ledger skills and experience in endowment/gift accounting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced accounting and analysis for gifts, pledges, endowments.
  • Analyze donor agreements and gift documentation to determine appropriate accounting treatment and restriction classification.
  • Create accounts for new Endowments and monitor any modifications or amendments to existing Endowments to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Assist the Accounting leadership team with the day‑to‑day, quarterly and fiscal year‑end operations of the Accounting Office, focusing on balance sheet support and reconciliation.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Complete monthly journal entries for utilities, credit cards and internal allocations.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of policies, procedures and internal controls related to gift accounting.
  • Identify process improvements and support system enhancements related to gift and Advancement financial data.
  • Maintain and reconcile pledge receivables, including discounting, allowances and aging analysis.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for Advancement staff on accounting related questions, gift structures and financial reporting and audit needs.
  • Serves as a resource regarding unique gift vehicles including, but not limited to, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities and insurances.
  • Prepare work papers for quarterly financial statements and assist with providing auditors with required documentation.
  • All other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
  • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to Title IX and Information Security, including FERPA and other state and federal mandates, duties, UPMIFA legislation, FASB disclosures.
Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA candidate preferred.
  • Comprehensive computer experience with advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity working with large data sets.
  • Three years of relevant experience in a higher education institution required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and standard methods of digital communication.
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, high‑level university officials and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and a willingness to work in a changing environment.
