The purpose of the Department of Baccalaureate Education is to provide the student with opportunities for learning experiences which will prepare the individual for professional nursing in health agencies, homes, and communities; and to provide the opportunity for continuing personal and/or professional development.

Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support as the lead assistant for the College of Nursing (CON), Department of Baccalaureate Education, serving as the liaison between the Dean, the Director of Student Transitions, ABSN Director, RIBN Director, and RN-BSN Director.
  • Support approximately 50 faculty in the department with administrative functions, including submission of college and university forms, preparation of travel reimbursements, recording and preparing minutes of departmental meetings, and handling confidential materials (e.g., faculty evaluations, personnel letters).
  • Assist the Department Chair with general duties such as maintaining the office front line, managing the Department Chair’s calendar, scheduling appointments and meetings, coordinating travel for the department, processing purchases, and monthly budget reconciliation.
  • Screen requests for meetings with the Department Chair for urgency and content, delegating where appropriate to preserve the Chair’s time; maintain the Chair’s calendar and communicate potential conflicts.
  • Interact with upper-level university officials, College of Nursing Administration, and other divisions within Academic Affairs as required.

  • Interpersonal skills and knowledge of the program; ability to work independently with good judgment; proactive in prioritizing and coordinating tasks.
  • Strong problem solving, adaptability, time management, and critical thinking in a dynamic environment.
  • Written communication: develop materials such as memos, letters, reports, syllabi, and presentation materials; proficient in Microsoft Word.
  • Information/Records Administration: record keeping, Excel proficiency, tracking faculty requirements, maintaining confidential files and minutes, and assisting with annual reports on enrollment, retention, and graduation rates.
  • Budget: assist with monthly departmental expense reporting and monitor expenditures; prepare travel documents for department leadership and faculty.
  • Office Technology: use systems such as ODS, Banner, Faculty 180, Tracdat, Ref Works, Canvas, Chrome River, eTrac; develop oral and poster presentations.
Minimum Education /Experience

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

None

Preferred Experience , Skills, Training/Education

Experience in a medical or academic setting with supervisory training and/or experience. Knowledge of computers, software programs, and medical terminology. Excellent public relations skills and the ability to work efficiently and effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to function independently with minimal instructions.
