A nationally recognized design-build contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent to lead field operations on large-scale municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment projects.
The Superintendent will oversee day-to-day site execution, including self-perform operations, subcontractor coordination, safety, quality, scheduling, and workforce planning. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with heavy civil construction, process mechanical systems, or both.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all field operations from mobilization through startup, commissioning, and final turnover.
- Plan, sequence, and supervise heavy civil, structural concrete, underground utility, and process mechanical scopes.
- Direct self-perform crews, foremen, subcontractors, vendors, and field support personnel.
- Develop look-ahead schedules, work plans, crew-loading projections, equipment plans, and material-delivery schedules.
- Coordinate excavation, dewatering, shoring, site utilities, concrete structures, piping, equipment installation, and facility construction.
- Oversee the installation of process piping, pumps, valves, treatment equipment, clarifiers, aeration systems, chemical-feed systems, and associated infrastructure.
- Coordinate mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls work with civil and structural activities.
- Partner with project management to maintain the overall schedule, budget, quality requirements, and project documentation.
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and coordination documents for constructability and field execution.
- Track daily production, labor, equipment, quantities, schedule progress, and self-perform cost performance.
- Identify scope conflicts, design issues, schedule constraints, and changed conditions before they affect project delivery.
- Enforce project safety programs, conduct pre-task planning, and maintain compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Establish quality-control expectations and verify that work complies with contract documents and approved submittals.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, system startup, commissioning, owner training, and final acceptance.
- Lead progress meetings and maintain clear communication with project managers, engineers, inspectors, owners, and trade partners.
- Mentor assistant superintendents, foremen, field engineers, and craft professionals.
- Manage punch-list completion, closeout activities, and warranty-related field work.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of construction experience, including progressive field leadership responsibility.
- Prior experience as a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent on water or wastewater treatment projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading large, technically complex projects or major project scopes.
- Experience with projects valued at $100 million or more strongly preferred.
- Strong heavy civil, structural concrete, underground utility, or process mechanical experience.
- Proven experience managing significant self-perform operations and craft work forces.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, mechanical, process piping, electrical, and instrumentation drawings.
- Knowledge of treatment-plant construction, equipment installation, testing, startup, and commissioning.
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling, cost control, production tracking, quality management, and safety.
- Excellent leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- OSHA training and current First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Willingness to travel nationwide and remain assigned to projects for their duration.
Preferred Experience
The strongest candidates will have delivered new construction, expansions, or major upgrades involving:
- Municipal wastewater treatment plants
- Water treatment and reclamation facilities
- Industrial water or process-water systems
- Pump stations and lift stations
- Process piping and mechanical equipment
- Deep excavation, shoring, dewatering, and underground utilities
- Active-facility tie-ins and phased shutdowns
What the Opportunity Offers
- Long-term pipeline of major water and wastewater projects.
- Leadership responsibility over complex self-perform construction.
- Competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits.
- Project-related travel support based on assignment.
- Professional development and advancement opportunities.
- Opportunity to join an established team with integrated design-build capabilities.
