Primary Purpose of Organizational UnitThe East Carolina University Community School involves cross campus collaboration to provide the students a spectrum of support and services to comprehensively address their academic, social-emotional, physical, and family/community needs. The school includes Kindergarten through 5th grade. The Community School involves an integrated partnership with Pitt County Schools and will be housed within a local elementary school.
Primary Purpose of PositionAs an educator within the East Carolina University School, the teacher will cultivate a culture of innovation that supports effective instructional practices/strategies to promote student academic and personal success for all students in the school. The Teacher will work collaboratively with others to facilitate and implement innovative instruction to achieve the mission of the school. The teacher will work collaboratively with the ECU Community School Principal and university faculty/staff to support the successful social-emotional, physical, and academic development of the students within the community school.
Contingent upon availability of funds.
Minimum Education , Knowledge, Skills, and ExperienceBachelor's degree in education or a related field; demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills; and evidence of skill working with at risk student populations. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or RegulationNC Teaching Licensure in elementary (K-6) or related field or be eligible to obtain one.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and ExperiencePreference will be given to candidates who have 3 years teaching experience in innovative schools with a track record of improving student outcomes for all subgroups. Teaching experience with student groups is preferred. Graduates of East Carolina University teacher education programs are preferred.

- possess strong interpersonal relationship skills including collaboration with individuals
- highly motivated and be willing to be receptive to innovative practices/procedures
- willing to take the initiative to learn the duties/responsibilities/expectations of the work and operations of the lab school
- willing to work alone or as a group/team when necessary
