The School of Dental Medicine is composed of ten administrative offices and four academic departments. The administrative units include the Offices of the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Research, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Associate Dean for Extramural Clinical Practices, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Assistant Dean for Dental Education and Informatics, Assistant Dean for Academic Success and the Assistant Dean for Business Operations and Financial Affairs.
The four academic departments are Surgical Sciences, Pediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, General Dentistry and Foundational Sciences.
The mission of the School of Dental Medicine is to educate dental care providers (both dental students and dental residents) and to address the oral health care needs of the rural population of North Carolina. The School meets these missions by operating dental clinics that provide educational experiences for dental students and residents while delivering care to North Carolina residents. Clinics operate in Ross Hall, Greenville, and Community Service-Learning Centers statewide.
Appropriate dental auxiliaries and clinical staff are needed to support these clinics.
The School of Dental Medicine is an approximately $49 million enterprise, supporting education, clinical care, research, and service across multiple locations. The Senior Director of Administration and Budget supports alignment of academic, clinical, and research resources with the School’s mission, overseeing budget, facilities, workforce planning, and compliance.
Program Management – 20%Provides oversight of personnel and budget matters, collaborates with the Dean and Assistant Dean, and serves as SoDM liaison to People Operations. Coordinates recruitment, retention, salary monitoring, and policy development. Works closely with satellite offices and recruitment firms, attends job fairs, and implements new HR policies. Responsible for initial review of SoDM contracts and advises on administrative and financial issues.
Budget and Reporting – 25%Supports development and monitoring of the School’s budget, forecasts, and strategic investments. Provides indirect supervision to CSLC Business Managers and Ross Hall Business Manager, aligns staffing and patient services with financial priorities, and identifies cost savings. Coordinates foundation accounts, grants, and salary redistribution, ensuring deadlines and indirect funding compliance.
Clinical Operations – 30%Analyzes clinical operations data to identify efficiencies and increase patient revenue. Builds dashboards and dashboards for scheduling, utilization, and appointment metrics. Monitors Power
BI data monthly to identify trends and improve processes.
Fosters relationships across health sciences and university units, communicates on behalf of the Assistant Dean, resolves issues, and serves as primary contact in the Assistant Dean’s absence.
Credentialing – 10%Oversees credentialing functions affecting billing and clinical operations, working with the credentialing coordinator to improve processes.

Minimum Education /ExperienceAn appropriately accredited master’s degree in public health administration, hospital administration, business administration, or related program and five years of administrative experience or five years of experience in clinical administration.
Preferred Experience , Skills, Training/Education- Experience leading critical human resource and financial functions in a dynamic environment while building effective teams.
