The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a highly educated nurse board-certified, with master s or doctoral preparation, focused on elevating patient outcomes and transforming healthcare systems.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master of Science in Nursing with Clinical Nurse Specialist concentration is required.
  • Doctorate of Nursing Practice with CNS concentration preferred.
  • American Heart Association BLS is required.
  • Current certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from a national credentialing body approved by the NC Board of Nursing or completed 1 year from the hire date is required or Pediatric/Neonatal/Adult CNS within three years of hire.
  • More than 4 years as a Registered Nurse required.
  • The CNS concentration may be substituted for a Master of Science in Nursing when accompanied by either:
    Clinical Nurse Specialist certification with the NC Board of Nursing;
    Post-master s certificate with a CNS concentration.
  • Or CNS concentration may be substituted for Master of Science in Nursing degree along with one of the following:
    Pediatric/Neonatal specific CNS program within one year of hire;
    Adult CNS program (for Women s CNS) within one year of hire.

Pay for Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist: $92,206.40 - $
