Description of Work The Systems Administrator I position provides technical and administrative support for server infrastructure at Central Regional Hospital. This role is responsible for securing, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting physical and virtual servers, storage area networks, and enterprise applications in a healthcare environment. The Systems Administrator ensures compliance with state IT security policies and facilitates system upgrades, backups, and performance tuning with minimal service disruption.

Work involves high-level planning, design, and implementation of server systems and virtualization platforms. The position requires collaboration with internal teams to support mission-critical systems and ensure operational continuity.

Key Duties Include
  • Administer and maintain physical and virtual servers.
  • Design, deploy, and manage VMware environments using vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and related tools.
  • Perform server hardware setup, firmware upgrades, and operating system patching and troubleshooting.
  • Manage Active Directory, NTFS permissions, DNS, DHCP, and FTP services across multiple domains.
  • Monitor server performance, conduct capacity planning, and implement performance tuning measures.
  • Administer data backup and recovery solutions using Veeam for both physical and virtual environments.
  • Identify and remediate system vulnerabilities to ensure compliance with DIT State Security policies.
  • Provide user account management and support, including NCID, guest access, and print server administration.
  • Coordinate and test software upgrades and migrations to minimize impact on clinical and administrative systems.
  • Support LAN operations and collaborate with IT teams to maintain secure and efficient networked systems.

Salary Grade Range: $75,818.00 - $ Recruitment Range: $75,818.00-$88,902.00 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience managing enterprise VMware environments, including vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and vSphere Update Manager, with expert-level proficiency in virtual machine deployment, migration, and high availability configurations.
  • Proven track record of administering Windows and Linux server operating systems in a hybrid physical and virtual infrastructure, including patching, performance tuning, and troubleshooting across multiple server generations.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining Storage Area Networks (SANs) and iSCSI networking solutions in a healthcare or similarly complex environment, with measurable outcomes in uptime and data integrity.
  • Advanced proficiency in Active Directory administration, including user and group management, Group Policy configuration, and integration with enterprise applications and services.
  • Documented success implementing secure server environments in compliance with state or federal IT security standards, including vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and audit preparation.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in systems software programming
  • Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in systems software programming
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
