Organizational Unit Overview

The East Carolina University Center for Telepsychiatry and e-Behavioral Health (CTeBH) is the home for the North Carolina Statewide Telepsychiatry Program (NC-STeP), a legislatively mandated and funded program that connects more than 50 hospital emergency departments, primary care clinics, and health departments across the state of North Carolina to provide psychiatric assessments and consultations to patients linked using telemedicine technologies. The CTeBH strives to increase access to evidence-based care and is actively engaged in helping our field effectively deal with the lack of access to care that can sometimes force patients to travel long distances to obtain mental health services or forgo such services altogether.

Job Duties

This is a full-time faculty psychiatrist position to provide clinical services, predominantly via telepsychiatry, to patients presenting in the emergency departments of hospitals, as well as at the community-based outpatient clinics, affiliated with the North Carolina Statewide Telepsychiatry Program (NC-STeP). The current network includes 28 hospitals, 24 adult outpatient clinics, 5 pediatric clinics, 2 university student health centers, and 4 Ob‑Gyn clinics.

The psychiatrist will spend most of their time providing direct clinical service. The position will report to the Director of the Center and will also assist with monitoring and improving NC‑STeP outcomes; integrating with community-based providers; and implementing evidence-based practices. The position emphasizes a leadership role and an active engagement in clinical, educational, and scholarly activities.
