Position Summary
The Certified Nursing Assistant II performs specific responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. Functions within the framework of the NAII listing granted by the NC Board of Nursing. Practices within the philosophy and goals of patient care services. In addition, the Nursing Assistant may be utilized in the Observer Role responsible for monitoring one or more assigned patients on a designated unit for a specified time period.
Responsibilities- Participate in quality improvement activities, including problem solving, data collection, infection control, and cost savings initiatives.
- Participate in education by attending staff development programs and fulfilling mandatory educational requirements; assist in orientation of new staff and students.
- Follow hospital and unit policies and procedures, maintain quality patient care, and keep active NAI and NAII licensure.
- Build interpersonal relationships and communication, listen to others, give constructive feedback, and work effectively within a team.
- Contribute to unit goals, assist in cost-effective use of equipment and supplies.
- Under RN supervision, assist in providing direct patient care and completing delegated tasks.
- Perform additional duties such as EKGs, phlebotomy, venipuncture, and assistance with admission, transport, and discharge.
- Monitor patients for escalating behaviors, alert the nurse, maintain observation levels, communicate with the care team, document accurately, ensure hazard surveillance, and engage patients in needed activities.
- High school diploma or GED preferred, or higher.
- Active NAI listing with the NC Department of Health & Human Services required.
- Active NAII listing with the North Carolina Board of Nursing required.
- Current American Heart Association Heart Saver or higher certification required.
- De-escalation training (Non-violent crisis intervention or other de-escalation program adopted by ECU Health) required; must be completed within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
